Wireless Internet Access LCLC is excited to announce that we now offer wireless Internet access to our guests staying in the Retreat Center. The new 6mg/384k broadband service will provide wireless access to the Internet from almost anywhere in the Retreat Center. While LCLC is an outdoor ministry, we do realize the need our guests have for staying connected to work and home while retreating. If you would like to schedule a retreat for your group or just for yourself, please call the office. We'll be glad to help you meet your retreating needs. 716-386-4125. Recreation Pavilion CampaignOne of the challenges of programming at LCLC is the lack of adequate indoor multi-purpose space. The only current option for large-group rainy day space is the dining facility, St. John’s Hall. While this is a wonderful dining facility, it does have limitations when it comes to indoor recreational space. Namely, the size, the tables and chairs being set up for meals, and the need for cleanliness in the dining hall. As a way of addressing these year-round challenges, LCLC is raising funds for a large multi-purpose recreation pavilion. This facility would provide a sheltered, lit, outdoor space for summer campers and retreat groups throughout the year. It will be usable for worships, campfires, group building, large group games, concerts, evening programs, basketball, volleyball, 4-square, broomball, church picnics, and other large group activities. Other camps that have similar pavilions are amazed at how popular their pavilions are with campers and retreat groups. The estimated cost for such a structure could exceed $100,000. It’s exciting to note though, that $33,000 has already been raised. The goal is to have the funds raised and the pavilion built by summer 2009. Please contact the office for information on how to give to this exciting project. |
Health Department Mandates Water SystemThe Chautauqua County Department of Health, which regulates youth camping, mandated that LCLC install a comprehensive water treatment system by the start of the 2008 summer camping season. While this is a project that LCLC has been addressing for the past few years, the sudden deadline is a sizable challenge. Currently, there are three separate water treatment areas that require much care and attention. The new water treatment system will consolidate these separate systems into one easily managed storage and treatment facility. LCLC is currently under contract with an engineering firm for the design and implementation of the new system. The engineers are finalizing the design for a system that will confidently provide for the peak water supply needs currently and in the future. There is no doubt that a new water treatment system is needed. Ultimately it will ensure a basic need of our campers and guests; having ample access to clean, safe water. Our main challenge of the water system however, is funding; especially with such short notice. The estimated cost for a project like this is $250,000. There are a number of funding options worthy of consideration. The LCLC Operations Committee will be exploring all of these at its next meeting and will be sure to keep the LCLC family informed of its actions.
